Joseph V. Belardo South Plainfiel- Joseph V. Belardo, 91, died on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at The Woodlands Genesis Elder Care in Plainfield. Born and raised in Plainfield, Mr. Belardo resided in South Plainfield for the past 57 years. He worked for Harris Structural Steel in South Plainfield as a Plant Manager for his entire career. A Veteran of WWII, Joe served as a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army in the 83rd Infantry Division. During battle in the European Theatre Mr. Belardo served as General Patton's Forward Infantry Platoon leader. A recipient of the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge, Joe also received numerous overseas valorous commendations and was the last living member of his platoon. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to his family. He is predeceased by a sister Betty Debbie, three brothers; Sal, Dominic and Vincent and a grandson Scott Ribar. Surviving are his wife Mary L. (DelliPoali), his daughter Brenda Ribar and her husband Kenneth of South Plainfield and his son Joseph M. Belardo and his wife Nancy also of South Plainfield, a sister Angie Perrucci of Phillipsburg and a brother John and his wife Ann of Martinsville. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Keith (Robin) and Kendall Ribar and Mary Belardo (Jason VanDerveer), Joseph (Bethann) and Patrick (Beth) Belardo and four great grandchildren; Olivia, Lily and Julian Belardo and Jonathan VanDerveer. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 9:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at St. Bernard of Clairvaux & St. Stanislaus of Kosta RC Church, Plainfield. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 from 4-7 PM in the funeral home.
