McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 908-561-8000 South Plainfield - Dennis W. Scalera, 53, died Monday, September 1, 2014 from injuries sustained in a car accident. Born and raised in South Plainfield, Dennis is a 1979 graduate of South Plainfield High School. He worked in the packaging department with Keefe Group of Edison. Dennis' selflessness has been honored and recognized, he was instrumental in cleaning the VA markers in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, received the title of Outstanding Young Man of America from the United States Junior Chamber and Volunteer of the Year award from the South Plainfield Republican Organization. Dennis has proudly volunteered with various veteran organizations throughout his life. He enjoyed researching his family history as well as South Plainfield Borough. Predeceased by his father, Joseph Jr.; surviving are his mother, Patricia (Coyle); three siblings, James P. of Old Bridge and his children, Brittany and James Jr. Brother, Joseph F. of South Plainfield and sister, Pamela Mocharski and her husband, John Sr. and her children, John Robert and Michael of South Plainfield. He will also be missed by many cousins and extended relatives. Funeral services will begin on Saturday September 6, 2014 at 6PM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080. Cremation and interment of his cremated remains will take place privately in his family plot. Family and friends may attend visitation on Saturday beginning at 3PM.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Plainfield American Legion Chaumont Post 243, 243 Oak Tree Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080.
