Obituary of Alan J. Moore

South Plainfield - Alan J. Moore "Cookie" 78, passed away early Friday morning, February 21, 2014 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Hillside to the late Frederick Moore and Harriet Gatsch, he grew up in Union and had resided in North Plainfield prior to settling in South Plainfield in 1971. He is a New Jersey Institute of Technology graduate, earning a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Alan worked at Lockheed Electronics Company for many years in Watchung until their closing in 1990. He was then employed by Frequency Engineering Laboratories (FEL) in Freehold prior to his retirement in 1995. He was an avid golfer in his prime and also enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending summer vacations at the Jersey Shore with his family while they were young. Alan and his wife are longtime members of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in South Plainfield. Predeceased by four brothers, Frederick, William, Donald and Robert, surviving are his wife, Nancy A. Johnson, five children; Nancy Bullard and her husband, Brad, of South Plainfield, James and his wife, Aleksandra of South Plainfield, Kristy Forys and her husband, Ned of Alabama, Nancy Moore of California and Debra Chamberlain and her husband, Bruce of Connecticut, and a sister, Jean Hoffman and her husband, Warren of Warren, NJ. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and a tenth grandchild expected shortly. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 10 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a funeral service in St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 3145 Park Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ. 07080 beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation hours on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are requested to St. Stephens Church.
