South Plainfield - Elizabeth J. O'Brien, 87, died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at JFK Haven Hospice in Edison. Born to the late Walter and Mary Grampp in Elizabeth, NJ, Elizabeth settled to South Plainfield in 1957 and became a lifelong resident. As a proud 1942 graduate of St. Patrick's High School, she formed friendships that lasted for over 70 years. Prior to retirement, Elizabeth worked as a manager for both Bamberger's and Mattel Inc., while being a full-time mother to her four children. A faithful communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield, Elizabeth was a member of their Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Suburban Women's Club. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, John D. O'Brien, four children; Barbara Garinello (Larry), Patricia Cleary (Michael Sr.), and John David, all of South Plainfield and Joan George (Jeff) of Warren, sister, Marie Cornell of South Plainfield and brother, Walter Grampp of Red Bank. She will also be missed by her five grandchildren; Michael Cleary Jr. (Jessica), Matthew Cleary (Sarah), Lauren Lukacs (Aron), Kristen George (Ben) and Jeffrey George Jr., one great granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Lukacs and a great grandson on the way. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 9:15AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield at 10AM. Family and friends may attend visitation on Monday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sister Agnes Foundation c/o Immaculate Conception School, 41 Mountain Ave, Somerville NJ 08876.
