Obituary of Yolanda A. Diana

Yolanda A. Diana Kingwood Township - Yolanda A. ( Esoldo ) Diana ,85, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington. Born and raised in Plainfield, Yolanda had resided in the city for many years before moving to North Plainfield for a short time and then settling to Kingwood Township with her son five years ago. Yolanda was a hardworking and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She began a long career at the former Samoset Laundry in Plainfield at the age of eighteen and the completion of high school. Her job began in the laundry room and she moved up the ranks to become the head bookkeeper and assistant to the owner. She retired from Samoset at the age of 62 only to open a well-known and popular luncheonette in Plainfield known as "Yolanda's Place" which she owned and operated for five years. She was faithful member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Westfield and had been active in the Plainfield Pop Warner Football Program while her children where younger. She was very instrumental in their fund raising efforts to better the organization. In addition, her luncheonette was the sponsor of her son's recreational softball teams. Predeceased by her husband, Benny who died in 1991 and her daughter, Brenda Goddard who died in 2003, she is also predeceased by her siblings, Rose Verini, Margaret Alexander, Lawrence Esoldo and James Esoldo. Surviving are two sons; Louis and his wife Helen and Michael and his wife, Bonnie, a sister; Jean Chardello, five grandchildren; Louis, Jr. Diana, Gabrielle Diana, Jennifer Diana, Kimberly Settles and William Goddard Jr. and many extended family members and friends. Family and friends may attend the visitation hours on Sunday, April 15, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and Monday from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Funeral services will begin on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 229 Cowperthwaite Place, Westfield, NJ 07090-4015. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
