Obituary of Richard C. Elliot

South Plainfield - Richard C. Elliot, 57, passed away surrounded by his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. His strength and determination was that of a true warrior. Born in Perth Amboy, Rich grew up in Edison and settled to South Plainfield in 1981. A graduate of the Class of '76 from JP Stevens High School in Edison, Rich worked for the Township of Edison Department of Public Works for 37 years retiring in 2014. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sports, NASCAR racing, and vacationing in Aruba. Predeceased by his parents, Janet (Batie) and Russell Elliot, surviving are his loving wife Deborah (Smith); his children, Richard C. Jr, Ryan, his wife, Abbie (Hovanec) and his expected grandson to be, all of South Plainfield; sisters, Judith Crouch, her husband Robert of Washington; Janet Putz, her husband Barry of Georgia; brothers, Russell, his wife Valori of Washington and Ron of South Plainfield. Also surviving are his mother and father in law Clifford H. and Erika Smith of South Plainfield, along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends. Relatives and friends will be gathering for visitation on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 3-8Pm in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Cremation Services will be held privately. In Lieu of Flowers donations can be made to American Cancer Society www.cancer.org
