Julius J. Peterson South Plainfield, NJ - Julius J. Peterson, 84, died on Friday, December 9, 2011 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Newark, NJ, he has been a resident of South Plainfield since 1960. An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, Julius served his country during WWII and received the Philippines Independence Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a fifty-one year lifetime member and five time commander of the VFW Post #6763 of South Plainfield and was very active with the Military Order of the Cootie of the U.S., a division of the VFW whose members devoted their time volunteering at many veteran affairs. He was a thirty five year member of the American Legion Post #243 in South Plainfield. He enjoyed traveling and time spent at the beach in Wildwood Crest. He retired as a carpenter and was a past president and delegate with Union #155 formerly of Plainfield (presently located in Cranford.) He is predeceased by his wife Gloria (Wist) Peterson who passed away on February 4, 2000 and by his sister Eleanor Reed and infant brother Norman. Julius leaves behind his children; Dawn Moss and her husband Robert of South Plainfield and Susan Pepe and her husband Eric of Flemington, his loving companion Dorothy "Dot" Poeltler of Edison, two grandchildren Richard and Lauren Moss and by his sister, Alma Spicer of Florida. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 beginning 10:00 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by mausoleum entombment at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Monday, December 12, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the service time. In Lieu of flowers, donations sent to the American Heart Association, 1 Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
