South Plainfield - Michael Mastropietro, Sr., 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at CareOne at the Highlands in Edison with his family at his side. Born and raised in South Plainfield, Michael served during WWII with the Army Air Force as a staff sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1946. Prior to his retirement in 1986, Michael worked for Niagra Rubber Corporation, known today as Itran, in South Plainfield. He is a member of the American Legion Chaumont Post 243 of South Plainfield and a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield. Michael was also an avid Mets Fan. Predeceased by his wife who died in 2003, Carmella (Papaccio), surviving are a daughter, Michele Beck and husband, Walter of Edison, son, Michael Jr. and his wife Lillian of Metuchen, six granddaughters; Lisa, Lori, Leslie, Angela, Nancy and Jennifer and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:45AM on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Family and friends may attend the visitation on Tuesday, December 3rd from 2-4PM & 7-9PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.
