Karen DePalma Somerset, NJ - Karen S. (Moore) DePalma, 62, died on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville with her family at her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bayonne, Karen had resided for a short time in Jersey City, Fairview, Cliffside Park and Bayonne before moving to South Plainfield in 1977. She remained in the boro until 2005 when she settled to Somerset. Karen received her Bachelors Degree of Arts in Education from Glassboro State College, currently known as Rowan University and earned her Masters Degree of Arts in Education from St. Peters College in Jersey City. In June of 2009, Karen retired from the Piscataway Board of Education where she worked as an elementary school teacher, instructing kindergarten and second grade students at the Knollwood Elementary School. Predeceased by her parents, Edward and Susan (Rada) Moore, she is survived by her husband Tony of forty years, two children; Michele Hilton and her husband Jeff and Gregg DePalma and his wife Nicole. She also leaves behind her sister, Mary Soldivieri and a brother, Edward Moore and three beloved grandchildren; Jackson, Reid and Kayleigh. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 beginning at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Family and friends may attend the visitation on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 4-8 PM and on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the service time in the funeral home. In lieu of flower, memorial donations in Karen's name may be sent to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Donor Services, P. O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265. (www.komen.org)
