South Plainfield - Walter Kula, 78, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Walter settled to South Plainfield in 1963.
He worked for Cream-O-Land Dairy, founded Hungpole Fuel Service with his business partner Louis Jaeger and spent 10 years at General Motors. Walter also established a home improvement business in 1965, BK's Home Improvement, Inc. After retirement, his legacy has continued at the hands of his son helping the residents of South Plainfield and Piscataway.
Active in many community organizations, Walter was a member of the South Plainfield Elks Lodge 2298. He was Bar Chairman and named Elk of the Year in 1975. Mr. Kula was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, reaching the honor of 3rd Degree and a lifetime member of the Polish National Home in South Plainfield.
Mr. Kula also coached Junior Baseball in South Plainfield for several years.
Surviving are his wife, MaryAnn (Bieleski); three children, Michael Kula and wife Joanne, LisaAnn Dress and husband Donald and Robert Kula and wife Jade and five grandchildren, Nicholas and Justin Kula, River and Caylee Dress and Krista Kula.
Funeral services are private and under the direction of the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, South Plainfield.
